We have a couple new album reviews out from Americana Highways & Americana UK! There's definitely some harsh criticism sprinkled in to help keep the skin thick, but there are some moments of light mixed in there as well. Especially this quote by Elise Cady, “These songs are for all of us who’ve felt like the outsider, and moreover, they’re songs for that part of us that’s felt they’re at the edge of insanity. They’re clever, inventive, unique all the while feeling homegrown and folky.” I think she really nailed it with the edge of insanity part!
I know these songs aren't for everyone. They can be long, repetitive, unvarnished and maybe not as colorful as bigger arrangement we're used to hearing in our modern times. They're an exhausting interpretation of a world in disrepair. This is not always exciting, but something I find important to try and process nonetheless.
